Religious tourism

Around the lake Plastiras, there are many monasteries and churches in the building and construction dates back to16th century. Many of them functioned as "secret schools" during the period of Turkish rule. Within these there are old frescoes and icons dating from the 15th century onwards. The most important of these is the Monastery of Korona, which is one of the most important religious monuments of Karditsa and the whole of Thessaly, the Monastery of Pelekiti that "hanging" on the rocks from an altitude 1400metron hence the name of the Holy Cave Monastery of Panagia near Mouzaki, the chapel of the Life Giving Spring in Mesenikola, Agia Triada Morfovouni, the Holy Monastery of Petra in Katafygi, and finally the chapel of St. Panteleimon near Kalyvia.
